The MassDOT Rail & Transit Division oversees the Commonwealth’s passenger rail, freight rail, and Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs). The Division manages state-supported Amtrak services, capital investments, federal and state grant programs, transit operations outside Greater Boston, and partnerships with key stakeholders across New England.
The MassDOT Rail and Transit Division oversees the Commonwealth's 15 Regional Transit Authorities, MassDOT's freight and passenger rail program and works closely with the MBTA. The Rail & Transit Intern will work the Manager of Transit Programs and the Transit Project Manager to support a variety of initiatives.

MassDOT’s divisions include: Highway, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Aeronautics, and Rail & Transit. Headquarters (Planning & Enterprise Services) provides business and administrative support and policy leadership for each of the four (4) divisions.
