Job Description

Project Manager - Heavy Civil Construction

We are seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager with a strong background in heavy civil construction to join our growing team. In this role, you will oversee all phases of assigned projects - including budgeting, scheduling, submittals, RFIs, contracts, and purchase orders - while maintaining professional and effective communication with clients, subcontractors, and field teams. This position reports directly to the Senior Project Manager .

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Prepare, review, and return submittals for materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Operations Managers to determine crew, equipment, and resource needs.
  • Develop and maintain project cost codes and regularly update job cost tracking.
  • Oversee subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Review and approve subcontractor and supplier estimates, invoices, and change orders.
  • Negotiate and coordinate all extra work orders and scope changes.
  • Monitor production, resource utilization, and project costs to maintain targeted profit margins.
  • Prepare and present monthly job cost and profitability projections.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects , such as site development, roadwork, utilities, bridges, or earthwork.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record of managing budgets, schedules, and quality standards in a heavy civil environment.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with clients, engineers, and local government agencies.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, estimating tools, and project documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.
